Sprekers uit de Nederlanden dieper in gaan op het hoe, wat en waarom van hun projekten.

  • 11:00 room open
  • 12:00 - 12:45 Red Raspberry Pi
  • 13:00 - 13:45 Open Source Smart Card
  • 14:30 - 15:00 Break
  • 15:00 - 15:45 Open Computer
  • 16:00 - 16:45 Presentation
  • 17:00 end of Freedom Hardware Day

Red on the Raspberry Pi

Kaj de Vos will show his work (in progress) to get the Red Programming Language running on the Raspberry Pi.

Red is a new programming language, strongly inspired by REBOL.

Main characteristics are:

  • Functional, imperative and symbolic
  • Prototype-based object support
  • Homoiconic (Red is its own meta-language)
  • Both statically and JIT-compiled to native code
  • Concurrency and parallelism strong support (actors, parallel collections)
  • Low-level system programming abilities through the built-in Red/System DSL
  • High-level scripting and REPL console support
  • Highly embeddable
  • Low memory footprint, garbage collected
  • Low disk footprint (< 1MB)

Open Source Smart Card

Martijn Oostdijk is researcher at Novay. He will tell us about open source for smart cards.

Open Computer

Can we build a totally open computer as a solder-at-home kit?

Eric Herman will talk about his experience building free systems on closed hardware, describe the problems he encountered: no docs, trial-and-error, end-of-life hardware.

Talk about the EEG hardware he has published (and show the boards) designing boards, getting them printed, surface mount soldering on the kitchen table.
